The door may have just opened for long-time rivals, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, to make a surprising trade soon that benefits both teams.

On Sunday, the Cowboys suffered a major setback when they came up short against the Denver Broncos. While Dallas’ offense was not as good as usual against a good Denver front, their 24 points should have been enough to potentially get a win. Unfortunately, the continued awful play of their defense was why they still lost by 20 points.

Dallas has issues in the secondary, but unsurprisingly, they badly miss Micah Parsons after trading him to the Green Bay Packers before the start of the season. It’s why they have been linked to trades for pass rushers in recent days, including Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby.

While recent attempts to fill the void have failed, an intriguing option emerged on Tuesday. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, former first-round pick and EDGE rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is a player to watch ahead of the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline.

What could a Cowboys trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux look like?

The fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has not lived up to expectations, mainly due to injuries. In his sophomore season, he had a breakthrough year as he posted 11.5 sacks. However, that number fell to 5.5 last year after he only suited up for the Giants in 12 games. But he is having a rock-solid season for New York in 2025.

Thibodeaux is expendable because the Giants are invested in veteran star Brian Burns and their first-round pick in 2025, Abdul Carter. The EDGE rusher still has a ton of potential, is only 24 years old, and is signed for another season at $14.7 million. Obviously, the Giants are not interested in helping the Cowboys. But after another loss this week, they need to start thinking big picture and get draft assets that can help get them back to being competitive in the years ahead.

Since the Cowboys have extra first-round picks after the Parsons trade, they may be more willing to part with a premium pick on Day 2. They definitely would be willing to give up a fourth-rounder, since they did that a couple of years ago when they traded for Trey Lance. Could they give up a second or third rounder for Thibodeaux?

With Dallas desperate to avoid missing the playoffs, they could part with a third-rounder, and that would be a win for the Giants because that would probably be the best offer they get. It seems very possible that the two long-time rivals could make a big trade in the next week.
