Perrion Winfrey’s run with the Cleveland Browns has ended after one season following a police investigation into alleged threats with a gun.

On Wednesday morning, FOX 8 in Cleveland broke the news that the organization had released the 2022 fourth-round pick after it was revealed he is being investigated by local police. Authorities are reportedly looking into an alleged incident on Tuesday night where Winfrey is believed to have threatened a woman while brandishing a gun.

The incident reportedly occurred at a hotel on East 9th and Euclid, when two women who claim they know the Cleveland Browns defensive lineman said hello to him in a hotel lobby. After Winfrey allegedly ignored their overtures, one of the women yelled an insult at the 2022 rookie. That supposedly got a very strong response as Winfrey allegedly became angry, threatened the two women, and made it very clear that he had a firearm on him.

The supposed victims also claim they have some video of the reported incident. Winfrey has not been officially charged or arrested but is under investigation. He is also now unemployed after the Cleveland Browns confirmed to FOX 8 that he was waived on Wednesday morning.

The team took the standout from Oklahoma in the fourth round of last year’s NFL Draft, but he did not have a prominent role on the roster last season. He did play in 13 games, however, much of his work was on special teams and as a temporary replacement on the defensive line.

Winfrey only tallied 22 tackles and two QB hits during his limited game action last season.
