Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals are playing a snow game in Buffalo against the Bills on Sunday, but they told one of their players to stay home.

According to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals suspended wide receiver Jermaine Burton without pay for today’s game. Still playing on his rookie contract, Burton will lose roughly $60,000 for today’s suspension.

Yet, the specific reasoning for Burton’s suspension has not been revealed. It’s possible it never will be, but sometimes reporters will press the coaching staff after the game, leading to more clarity on the situation.

Either way, Burton’s absence isn’t exactly a painful one for Cincinnati. Burton hasn’t played in a single game all season. Last year, he saw action in 14 games and started one. But he only recorded four receptions on 14 targets. Though, he took those four catches for 107 yards.

The Bengals selected Burton in the third round, making him the 80th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he’s mostly been a headache since. The Bengals didn’t even have Burton travel with the team in Cincinnati’s 2024 season finale due to a coach’s decision.

While he’ll still have two more years left on his contract after this season ends, we’d guess Burton won’t be returning to the Bengals in 2026. Expect him to be cut or possibly traded for a sixth or seventh-round selection once the offseason gets underway.
