Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail on Tuesday after violating his probation, marking the latest chapter in the star player’s off-field troubles.

Rice reportedly violated his probation by testing positive for marijuana, forcing him to miss the team’s upcoming OTAs and mandatory minicamp.

Rashee Rice’s 2024 Dallas Crash and Probation Terms

The punishment stems from his 2024 high-speed multi-car crash in Dallas. He was arrested over a high-speed crash and was facing eight felony charges from the incident. He lost control of a rented Lamborghini while racing another sports car on a Dallas highway at speeds of up to 119 MPH.

The resulting error triggered a six-vehicle chain-reaction crash that injured seven people, after which he fled the scene on foot without checking on the victims.

Rice pleaded guilty to felony charges and received deferred adjudication. He was also slapped with five years of probation and a suspended 30-day jail sentence.

Now, however, the Chiefs’ offensive weapon was taken into custody in Dallas County and is scheduled for release on June 16.

“Mr. Rice was taken into custody today in the 194th Judicial District Court for testing positive for THC and ordered to serve the 30 days that he had previously been ordered to serve at a later time—starting today,” the DA’s office said in a statement.

Travis Kelce’s Past Support for Rice Under Fire

The NFL suspended Rice for six games last season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

This latest off-field trouble has also brought renewed scrutiny to Travis Kelce’s previous vocal support for his teammate, which now looks increasingly ill-advised.

Even as Rice continues to drag the Chiefs’ locker room through one scandal after another, Kelce’s public defense of him raises serious questions about the star tight end’s judgment and leadership. You remember it, right?

Taylor Swift’s boo famously wore a t-shirt in support of Rice during his league suspension. The shirt made a mockery of the numerous off-field issues the young wideout was already facing. Kelce and wide receiver Tyquan Thornton were seen sporting t-shirts before their game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which read “Free 4.”

Rice’s jersey number is 4.

At some point, one might think the headaches associated with Rice will outweigh the benefits for the Chiefs. Perhaps the latest probation violation will do it. I mean, you really can find somebody else out there who ranks 60th in receptions and 68th in receiving yards who isn’t going to find themselves in trouble every three weeks.

It’s not that hard.
