The Kansas City Chiefs just took a big step closer to a rumored reunion with the greatest receiver in team history, Tyreek Hill.
The KC Chiefs’ 10-year run of dominance may be over. For the first time since 2012, they finished with a record below .500 and missed the playoffs for just the second time during Andy Reid’s era as head coach. Patrick Mahomes suffering an ACL tear late in the season was just the bitter cherry on top of the awful sundae of a season the team had in 2025.
That is why change is certainly coming to the roster this offseason, and the area that could get the most attention is the offense. The unit that was once one of the most dangerous in the NFL has been carried by its defensive counterparts over the last few seasons. Returning the offense to its former self will be a priority.
Getting back to the old days has already started when the team reunited with Eric Bieniemy this offseason to once again be their offensive coordinator. Another reunion that has been the source of speculation over the last couple of months is bringing back eight-time Pro Bowler Tyreek Hill.
KC Chiefs open up over $40 million in cap space

Earlier this week, the receiver returning to Kansas City became a real possibility when the Miami Dolphins made him one of their first offseason cuts. However, before the KC Chiefs can add Hill or any other player, they needed to escape salary cap hell and slash a boatload of payroll. Well, they did that on Wednesday.
“The Chiefs converted $54.45 million of QB Patrick Mahomes’ 2026 salary into a signing bonus to create some much-needed cap room for the Chiefs,” Jason Fitzgerald of Over the Cap reports. “The move lowered Mahomes’ salary cap number from $78.2 to $34.65 million for 2026, opening up $43.56 million in cap room for the Chiefs.”
After a pair of down seasons and tearing his ACL in September, Hill is likely to come at a far lower rate than the $30 million he was making per season in Miami. So the KC Chiefs now have more than enough room to sign him and one or two other impact players this offseason.
