As the Buffalo Bills go through the process to find a replacement for fired head coach Sean McDermott, a new rumor claims they are considering a very outside-the-box option.

McDermott has pretty much been in the hot seat for the last three years. It’s what comes with an impressive amount of success, including a pair of trips to the conference title game and five AFC East titles in six years. After making the AFC Championship last year, this was very much a Super Bowl or bust season for the Bills.

Unfortunately for the coach, his team came up well short of that goal when they could not beat the Denver Broncos in their Divisional Playoff game over the weekend. The following day, the hammer hanging over McDermott’s head finally dropped, and he was ousted after nine seasons and 98 wins.

In the days since, a wide variety of coaches have emerged as candidates to be the BUF Bills’ next head coach. Including former offensive coordinator and one-time New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, and current OC Joe Brady.

BUF Bills to interview Philip Rivers

However, a name few would have expected is rumored to be in the race as well. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, none other than former Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts star QB Philip Rivers is expected to interview for the job on Friday.

Rivers made a shocking return to the league last month, after being retired for the previous four seasons, to try to help Indianapolis make the playoffs. Ultimately, the current St. Michael Catholic High School coach and the Colts were unable to make the postseason. However, the 44-year-old played far better than he should have considering the situation.

Rivers had not held a coaching job in either the NFL or college. However, he is well-regarded for his ability to be a leader of men, and reports after the season suggested he might get some coaching consideration from around the league.
