Brandon Beane made headlines as the Buffalo Bills general manager last offseason when he went on an expletive-filled rant to defend himself during an appearance on a local radio station. Less than a year later and with a new title, Buffalo’s president of football operations has done it again.

Speaking to Tyler Dunne, Beane offered a strong response to the outside skepticism and criticism of his decision to promote offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach to replace Sean McDermott. He also again referred back to his decision to draft quarterback Josh Allen as part of his defense.

“F*** the outside. It’s about the right selection for this team. And if we win, they’ll love it. It’s the same thing I said when I took Josh Allen. If I’m wrong, the moving company will be at my house. So, I understand. And I’m not going to have regret of choosing someone to appease the outside if I thought it should have been something different. If I’m wrong, I’ll f****** take my job and f****** go home.

Back in April, following the 2025 NFL Draft, Beane appeared on Buffalo’s WGR550’s “The Jeremy and Joe Show” and strongly defended himself for not investing more in the wide receiver position. He referred to the Bills offense outscoring every other team in the playoffs last year and questioned how anyone would doubt his belief that the team’s receiving corps was better entering the 2025 season than it was the previous year.

In said offseason, Buffalo signed wide receiver Joshua Palmer to a three-year contract and it used a seventh-round pick on Kaden Prather. Beane also seemed to be banking heavily on a second-year leap from wide receiver Keon Coleman.

The Bills offense ended the regular season scoring 44 fewer points than it did in 2024. After beating the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card Round, Buffalo lost 33-30 to the Denver Broncos, and the decision was made by Beane and owner Terry Pegula to fire McDermott that same night.

Rather than cleaning house after repeated playoff disappointment, Pegula promoted Beane to president of football operations and let him pick the head coach. While multiple candidates were brought in during the Bills coaching search, Beane’s recent interview makes it pretty clear that Brady was always the guy.

“I don’t want to be wrong — see him go somewhere else — when my gut told me it was Joe Brady. I’m never going to do that.”

Beane’s main defense against any criticism continues to be that he picked Allen, pointing to that single decision throughout his tenure with the team since 2017. He also seems to have a real tendency to use expletives when feeling the need to defend himself, even when unprovoked.

One would have thought that the team’s shortcomings this past postseason, which many believe were due to the state of the roster, would lead to the architect of said team being fired along with the head coach. Beane is being given another chance, one he clearly believes he deserves, but the moving company might need to be on standby if the team falls short again next season.
