Despite reaching the playoffs in eight of the past nine seasons, the Buffalo Bills decided to fire head coach Sean McDermott on Monday. The move wasn’t completely unexpected for a team that many felt underachieved really ever since Josh Allen enjoyed his breakout season in 2020.

Yet, now that the Bills have moved on, they have the unenviable task of trying to replace a head coach with a career win rate of 66.2%. His win percentage ranks 15th among head coaches in NFL history. The only two active coaches ahead of him are Nick Sirianni and Jim Harbaugh.

So, who will replace McDermott in Buffalo?

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tossed out a name he believes Bills fans should watch closely: Denver Broncos QB coach Davis Webb. Pelissero’s main reasoning is that Webb is “really close to Josh Allen.”

However, the Bills can’t even speak to Webb right now, since the Broncos are still in the playoffs. Meanwhile, other teams have already interviewed Webb once, but now they’re playing the waiting game, hoping for a chance to bring him back for a second interview once the Broncos’ season officially ends.

Pelissero also tossed out Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady as another candidate to fill the team’s head coaching vacancy while noting that the team appears focused on an offensive mind to replace McDermott, whose specialty lies on defense.

While Webb is just 30 years old, he spent three seasons operating as Allen’s backup QB in Buffalo from 2019 to 2021. When his six-year NFL playing career ended after 2022, Webb immediately found a job on Sean Payton’s staff as the Broncos’ QB coach. In 2025, he was promoted to the Broncos’ pass game coordinator and QB coach. Now, he may be in line to become the youngest head coach in the NFL.
