In explaining his enjoyment of helping kids take their interest in football to new levels, JK Dobbins set himself up to go viral for the wrong reasons.
If not for a few serious knee injuries during his NFL career, Denver Broncos running back JK Dobbins might be viewed as one of the better players at his position in the league. Unfortunately, he has played in just 43 games since being a second-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Yet, when he has been healthy, he has been an impact player on the teams he has been on. But, football fans may be unaware of his interest in using the notoriety he has attained to make an impact off the field. That was a focus of a recent conversation with ESPN, as he talked about some work he did at a youth football camp in Mexico. However, the way he worded it was not good at all.
JK Dobbins stats (2025): 772 rushing yards, 4 touchdowns, 5.0 yards per carry
“I also love to touch kids of a different type of upbringing. I love to touch the kids who don’t have it as fortunate as others,” Dobbins said about his recent football camp appearance. “Mexico City was a great opportunity for me because I wanna touch the kids, I wanna touch ‘em. I want to be able to not only in English, but in Spanish.”
Of course, Dobbins’ comments were meant to be harmless, and his work in expanding the sport to different nations, as well as working in underserved communities, should be commended. However, in an era where convicted and deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is a hot-button topic internationally, any comments about touching kids will turn heads.
Unsurprisingly, since the clip hit social media, it has garnered a lot of comments from the peanut gallery on those platforms, including on Reddit, TikTok, and Instagram.
Dobbins’ agent and officials in the Broncos front office surely gave a facepalm when they got wind of the poorly worded comments this week.
