Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is the new face of Madden NFL 27. EA Sports dropped the big reveal on Wednesday, making him the first player in franchise history to land on the cover.
The standard edition shows Williams gliding through the air in a slick jump-throw pose with the Chicago skyline behind him, while the deluxe “Iceman” version catches him in that signature celebration with snow falling around him.
And his custom Bears-themed painted nails are front and center on the artwork. Critics of the painted nails gimmick are not going to be thrilled.

Caleb Williams Flaunts Custom Painted Nails on Madden 27 Deluxe Cover
Williams, who’s coming in hot with a 90 overall rating, didn’t hide how much this means to him.
“When I received the call from Madden, it was like my childhood dream was coming true,” he said. “Being on the cover of Madden NFL 27 is a full-circle moment. I grew up playing Madden and imagining what it would be like to be part of the game.”
After a strong 2025 season where he threw for over 3,900 yards and 27 touchdowns — helping the Bears win the division and snag a playoff win — this feels like the perfect next chapter for the former No. 1 pick.

From Childhood Dream to Cover Star: Williams’ Historic Madden Moment
What stands out most is how proudly the game showcases Williams’ personal style, especially those painted nails that have sparked plenty of conversation in the past. Instead of shying away from it, EA leaned right into it on the deluxe cover, turning it into a celebration of who he is.
Former New York Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer tore into Williams for his leadership style in the locker room as a rookie. Particularly when he reportedly told veteran players to stop being slobs.
“Some rookie’s gonna come in who hasn’t played one snap, talking, wearing the fingernail polish, now he’s gonna come in here and tell me, who has been here, been through the struggle, that I need to clean up?” Toomer said.
The general consensus, though, has always been that if Caleb plays well, who gives a rip what he does with his fingernails? We’ve entered that phase of his career after last season. Will he keep it going this year?
The full game details drop Thursday, with Madden 27 hitting shelves worldwide on August 13.
