As rumors swirl about a reunion between the Kansas City Chiefs and the greatest receiver in team history, Tyreek Hill, head coach Andy Reid has weighed in for the first time on the recent speculation.
The KC Chiefs’ 10-year run of dominance may be over. For the first time since 2012, they finished with a record below .500 and missed the playoffs for only the second time during Reid’s era as head coach. Patrick Mahomes suffering an ACL tear late in the season was just the bitter cherry on top of the awful sundae that was the 2025 season.
That is why change is coming to the roster this offseason, and the area that could get the most attention is the offense. The unit that was once one of the most dangerous in the NFL has been carried by its defensive counterparts over the last few seasons. Returning the offense to its former self will be a priority.
That is why many believe a reunion between the KC Chiefs and Hill makes sense. Even before he was released by the Miami Dolphins this week, there was speculation about the receiver returning to the franchise that made him a household name. Now that he is a free agent, the two sides getting back together seems like an eventuality.
Unsurprisingly, during a Friday video call with KC Chiefs media, one of the men who chose to use a fifth-round pick on Hill in 2016, Andy Reid, was asked about the possibility of a return. Unfortunately, his answer won’t excite fans hoping to see the eight-time Pro Bowler back in Kansas City.
Andy Reid claims KC Chiefs have not talked to Tyreek Hill about reunion
“Listen, we go through everything and everybody. That’s what [GM] Brett [Veach] does. I don’t even know if Tyreek is healthy right now to do anything,” Reid said. “So, I’m sure he’s working hard on that part of it, trying to get that all straightened out.
“But yeah, listen, we talk about everything. So there’s nothing happening there. We know what you know. That he’s out there and cranking away, trying to get himself back to where he can play, period,” he added.
The 10-year veteran is rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered early this past season. That, along with a pair of down seasons, could help the organization get him at a reasonable rate. Earlier this week, they cleared around $40 million in cap space after restructuring Mahomes’ contract.
The KC Chiefs traded Hill before the 2022 season when the two sides hit an impasse on a new long-term contract.
