Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has confirmed he plans to attend Travis Kelce and pop princess Taylor Swift’s upcoming wedding, but only under one condition — that he doesn’t outgrow his tuxedo before the big day.
During a recent appearance on 96.5 The Fan’s The Drive Show, Reid said he “probably has” an invite to the July 3rd ceremony and added a little humor to his revelation as to whether or not he’ll be there.
“Well, I probably have. You know? I probably have,” he said. “And if I don’t outgrow my tuxedo before then, I’m going.”
That’s a big “if,” sir. Reid’s self-deprecating humor is nothing new for NFL fans. The 68-year-old’s witty one-liners have become a beloved part of Chiefs culture over the years.
When asked about buying a new suit for the high-profile event, the 68-year-old coach laughed but declined. And he shifted his focus to the actual couple.
“I’m so happy for them,” he said. “When you really come down to it, it doesn’t matter how big the show is around them. They’re in love, and that’s the most important thing.”
Andy Reid Welcomes Swift as Part of Chiefs Family
Reid has long shown his support for Swift and her relationship with Kelce. After Swift was loudly booed when shown on the Jumbotron at Super Bowl LIX, Reid defended her warmly in an interview with Pro Football Talk.
“She’s a good girl,” said Reid. “She handles that whole thing the right way. That’s a tough deal. She does a great job of handling it.”
The three-time Super Bowl champion and former AP NFL Coach of the Year also gave props to Kelce for his handling of the attention over his romance with Swift. He made clear that Swift is fully embraced by the Chiefs organization.
“She’s part of the team and, like the other girlfriends and wives, they’re part of it,” said Reid. “And that’s all part of the process.”
Reid has coached Kelce since 2013 and often refers to him like a son. This fatherly bond has clearly extended to Swift, whom Reid treats as a full member of the Chiefs’ family.
The wedding has generated months of speculation, with rumors pointing toward a New York City ceremony. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see whether Coach Reid makes good on his promise — tuxedo permitting — at what is shaping up to be one of the biggest celebrity events of the year.
