A new report offers a huge update on the future of legendary Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, and he “ain’t going out like this.”
New England Patriots icon Bill Belichick will probably go down as the greatest coach in NFL history. But if anyone could make a serious case to usurp his place, it is Andy Reid. That is what comes with posting a .644 win percentage in 434 games (just .003 below Belichick) and winning three Super Bowls in six trips to the Big Game.
- Andy Reid’s record: 279-154-1
What Belichick is to the Patriots, Reid is to the Chiefs franchise. He is their greatest coach and has known nothing but winning during his 13 years overseeing the roster. However, 2025 has been a nightmare year. They dealt with key injuries and suspensions early in the season. Battled back to get back into title contention, then fell apart in the second half, and now enter Week 16 with a shocking 6-8 record.
Making matters far worse is that the face of the franchise, Patrick Mahomes, suffered a season-ending ACL tear last week. An injury that is sure to make him miss the first few weeks of the 2026 season, at the least. It has created speculation that maybe this could be Reid’s final season with the franchise.
Andy Reid Has No Intention of Leaving KC Chiefs

Reid will be 68 years old in March, has flirted with the idea of retirement in recent years, and doesn’t have anything left to prove in his career. Taking his exit now doesn’t seem like an outrageous idea. However, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport & Tom Pelissero, Reid isn’t going anywhere.
“Coach Reid ain’t going out like this,” a source told the NFL insiders. While another flat-out said, “He’ll be back” in 2026.
The pair claims that Andy Reid has not indicated to those inside the KC Chiefs organization that he does not plan on returning next season. Plus, they added that the one benefit of this losing season is that the near 70-year-old will finally have a full offseason to recharge his batteries.
If they do have any major losses from the coaching staff, Rapoport and Pelissero suggest offensive coordinator Matt Nagy will be “a top coaching candidate” for various potential openings around the league after the season.
