For San Francisco 49ers fans intrigued by the idea of Nick Bosa reuniting with his brother Joey next season, the former just poured ice-cold water on the rampant rumors.
We are deep into the NFL offseason, and many of the major additions to rosters have been made with the top stars in free agency signed, trades made and the NFL Draft in the rearview. However, there are still many intriguing veteran players available on the open market. Accomplished stars like Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, and Deebo Samuel.
One in particular has been linked to the 49ers for weeks, and that is Joey Bosa, the older brother of San Francisco great Nick. The five-time Pro Bowler had a solid debut season with the Buffalo Bills in 2025, and while he has shown signs of an injury-related decline, many feel he could be a difference maker for the 49ers in 2026. As well as give the team a family discount.
Is Joey Bosa more likely to retire than sign with the San Francisco 49ers?

However, this week the younger sibling offered up an update that suggests Joey Bosa is more likely to retire at 30 years old than play in San Francisco in the upcoming season.
“Yeah, I think he’s working on his golf game right now,” Nick said in a new interview [h/t NFL.com]. “I don’t think he’s thinking too much about football.”
The fact that the five-time Pro Bowler is this far into the offseason and isn’t giving serious thoughts to where he will play in 2026 says a lot. Despite having a memorable career mostly spent with the Los Angeles Chargers, the elder Bosa sibling has dealt with injury woes throughout his career.
Be it concussions, leg and upper body injuries, Bosa has dealt with a lot during his 10 seasons in the NFL. After making $156 million during his NFL career, he may prefer to pass on the pain of the game and enjoy the fruits of his labor.
