NFL Suspends Browns GM Four Games

Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer has been suspended four games by the NFL for his involvement in the Textgate scandal. The suspension will begin at midnight of the day of the team’s first regular season game and extend through its fourth game.

Farmer had previously admitted that he was the high-ranking Browns official that sent text messages from the press box to team personnel on the sideline during games last year. That’s obviously a violation of NFL rules.

The good news here for Cleveland is that it was not docked a draft pick for violating league rules. Instead, the team was fined $250,000, an amount that owner Jimmy Haslam has under his sofa cushion at home.

Farmer will continue to remain active in the team’s front office until Week 1, so the upcoming NFL draft will not be impacted.
