The New York Giants may have an opportunity to form a front seven that can rival the Philadelphia Eagles by adding one of two game-changing defensive linemen that will soon be available.
There is a whole bunch of pressure on New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen. In his first season in the role, the team overachieved and made it seem like he was a great pick to lead the front office. However, after a pair of losing seasons, including a 3-14 finish in 2024, Schoen needs to turn this team around or expect to be looking for work after next season.

That is why Schoen must be smart with the players he uses draft picks on in April, and how he spends the roughly $37 million (via Over The Cap) they will have available this spring. Quarterback will be a priority this offseason, but the team could also look to bolster their defense for next season.
The Giants have seen first hand what a dominant front seven can mean for a team. They saw it during their two most recent Super Bowl runs and in 2024 as rivals the Philadelphia Eagles stormed their way to a Super Bowl win on the back of their defense and pass rush.
Well, a couple of elite linemen will soon be available and could be on the Giants’ free agency wish list.

Could New York Giants target Javon Hargrave or Jonathan Allen in free agency?

On Thursday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that two-time Pro Bowler Javon Hargrave will be a cap casualty for the San Francisco 49ers and is scheduled to be cut before free agency opens next week. However, he isn’t the only high impact DT that could also be a cap casualty.
After not being able to find a trade partner, the Washington Commanders are planning to cut two-time Pro Bowler Jonathan Allen as well. Could the Giants target either man in NFL free agency this month? It certainly should be something Shoen considers.
- New York Giants cap space (2025): $37.6 million
If the team chooses to use a top pick on QB, they should use their money to either improve their offensive or defensive line. However, the free agent options on the O-line are far less exciting. New York already has a pair of star pass rushers in Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns. Adding Hargrave or Allen to that mix would give the team a pass rush that could be one of the best in the NFL next season.
The big question is if many teams get involved in the chase for Allen and Hargrave and push them out of the Giants’ price range.
