NFL investigating Indianapolis Colts’ Isaiah Rodgers for placing ‘100 bets’

UPDATE: This article was originally written without knowing who the Indianapolis Colts player in question was. According to Stephen Holder, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is the only Colts player currently under investigation.

Suddenly in 2022, we learned the NFL had a bit of a gambling problem with their own players. First, Calvin Ridley was suspended the entire year for placing various sports wagers. Then it was a quartet of Detroit Lions penalized for similar infractions in April.

Now, an unknown Indianapolis Colts player may be the next athlete who has violated the league’s gambling policy, which prevents all coaches and players from placing any type of sports wagers at NFL facilities.

According to Matt Rybaltowski of Sports Handle and Stephen Holder of ESPN, there is evidence the anonymous Colts player placed 100 wagers, some of which may have been on Colts football games. Obviously, if true, that’s a no-no in the league’s eyes.

Players and coaches must refrain from betting on any kind of NFL event, no matter where they are. This could bring the total to eight NFL players plus an assistant coach who have all violated the league’s gambling policy just in the past five years.

As to who the player is? It’s reportedly “not a superstar,” but “an ardent NFL fan has probably heard of him.” What we do know is that the player is currently on the Colts’ roster.

The report adds that the betting account was opened by “an acquaintance” of the player, and more tidbits reveal most of the bets were in the $25-$50 range, with “at least one” low four-figure wager.
