NFL GM: 50 percent chance four QBs go within the first five picks

More so than in any NFL Draft since 1999, this year’s class is going to be top heavy at quarterback. As many as five could go within the first 10 picks with seven signal callers being bandied about as potential first-round selections.

With this will come a ton of trade activity once the first round gets going Thursday night in Dallas. And according to one NFL general manager, that could mean four quarterbacks are selected within the first five picks.

We already know that the Cleveland Browns at one and New York Jets with the third selection are likely going quarterback. Outside of that, it’s a real crapshoot. Picking No. 2 overall, the New York Giants could go in any one of four different directions.

That includes a quarterback in the first round. It also includes either defensive end Bradley Chubb or running back Saquon Barkley should New York stand pat at three.

With their second pick in the first round (fourth overall), the Browns could very well look to trade down with a quarterback-needy team. The same could be said for the Denver Broncos picking fifth overall.

In any event, it’s looking more and more like Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen will all be off the board within the first five picks of the draft.
