The Miami Dolphins have been linked to Tua Tagovailoa for over a year, and on Thursday they finally made the pick, drafting him No. 5 overall.

This selection doesn’t come without risk. Reportedly, there were multiple teams that failed him medically and took him off their draft boards due to a series of injuries suffered the past few seasons at Alabama. The most serious was the hip injury that knocked Tagovailoa out of last season, but all the medical checkups since that time have been glowingly positive.

The big issue long term is two-fold. First, nobody can say whether Tagovailoa’s extensive injury history really means he’s injury prone. Secondly, he will almost certainly need a hip replacement at some point, per multiple reports.

With all that in mind, it’s still not surprising that many Dolphins fans were ecstatic about their team landing a premier quarterback. He’s one of the best pure passers to enter the league in years.

Here’s how the selection was received on Twitter.
