NFL Draft buzz suggests Seattle Seahawks could pluck Anthony Richardson at No. 5

Heading into Thursday’s first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, one might think the Seattle Seahawks, who boast Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith, wouldn’t have any quarterback prospects high on their draft board. But with tantalizing players like Anthony Richardson potentially available on draft day, that may not be the case.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio cites “chatter in league circles” pointing to the Seahawks selecting Richardson with the fifth overall pick on April 27. Yet, this report must be taken with a grain of salt, considering there’s no way anyone could know if Richardson will even be available by the time the Seahawks are on the clock.

With teams like the Houston Texans seemingly far from set on C.J. Stroud or another QB at No. 2, the current landscape seems to suggest a trade could be in order. With the second overall pick, plus Arizona at No. 3 both possibly on the trade block, teams could certainly trade up for their preferred QB.

Then there’s Indianapolis at No. 4, who seems like a strong bet to take their QB of the future. Basically, while the Seahawks may very well be smitten with the gunslinging dual-threat option out of Florida, he may not even be available after four other teams make their picks.

Not to mention, the Seahawks just signed their first-year Pro Bowl QB to a three-year, $105 million extension in March. Is Seattle already thinking about life after the 32-year-old? We may get our answer on draft weekend.
