NFL denies report of Chargers relocating to London

A report surfaced on Monday indicating that both the Los Angeles Chargers and the NFL were open to the franchise relocating to London.

It seemed to come out of nowhere. One day later, the Chargers responded in the clearest voice possible indicating that there was no truth to the report.

While less colorful, the NFL also responded later on Tuesday by denying the substance of said report.

“There is no substance whatsoever to this report. No consideration has been given to the Chargers playing anywhere other than Los Angeles at the new stadium in Hollywood Park next season and beyond,” the league said in a statement. “There have been no discussions of any kind between the NFL and the Chargers regarding moving to London. Both our office and the Chargers are entirely focused on the success of the team in Los Angeles.

It’s not a secret that the Chargers are struggling in their temporary Carson digs. Attendance has been fine. However, most of those going to the games are fans of the opposing team.

As it relates to the NFL, it’s also not a secret that the league is looking to expand to London. It’s just not realistic to believe that the Chargers moving and ultimately re-branding is the best way to go.

It now seems that both the NFL and the Chargers have put this whole thing to rest.
