The COVID-19 pandemic has brought professional sports to a stop. During a time when millions are struggling, though, the NFL community has come together to provide incredible support.
Even before the NFL is set to hold its Draft-A-Thon, which will raise money for six non-profit organizations providing crucial support during the pandemic, there has already been amazing work done to aid relief efforts.
Between donations from players, owners and coaches, the NFL community has already donated more than $50 million towards COVID-19 relief.
Owners have played a tremendous role in the effort to prove for communities in need. The Carolina Panthers owner donated $2.65 million, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank pledged $5.4 million. Alongside them, team owners for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles each donated at least $1 million to COVID-19 relief efforts.
NFL players have also stepped up during this time of crisis. Drew Brees donated $5 million towards Louisiana’s COVID-19 relief, Houston Texans offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil pledged $250,000 to those struggling during the pandemic and Tom Brady has stepped up as well.
It’s wonderful to see the NFL family come together and do so much to help communities in need. The 2020 NFL Draft will provide a wonderful escape for millions during a difficult time and it will also help provide further aid for COVID-19 relief efforts.
