NFL coach ‘not sold’ on Will Levis, has second-round grade on Kentucky QB

While there isn’t a consensus on which quarterback should be the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, most would argue there are just two options, with Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud being the focal points. After that, there’s Will Levis and Anthony Richardson, who most would consider as first-round prospects, if not top-ten choices.

Scouts and analysts rarely agree on player rankings, so it’s not uncommon for NFL Draft QB rankings to be scattered all over the place. Yet, any time a report emerges of a first-round prospect being overhyped or overrated, it causes a frenzy.

In this case, it’s one of the most controversial QB prospects in this draft class, with Kentucky’s Will Levis being under the microscope. Levis is widely viewed as a first-round prospect and in the eyes of some, could even be a top-ten pick.

Yet, on the other end of the spectrum sits Levis’s doubters.

In Peter King’s latest Football Night in America column, he mentions speaking to an NFL coach who has done their homework on this year’s QB draft class who isn’t “sold” on Levis as a surefire top QB. In fact, the coach adds that they have a second-round grade on the QB.

Of course, the coach’s identity and which team they work for was kept secret, but it just goes to show how some front offices differ when it comes to evaluating prospects.

The other possibility is this coach is actually quite smitten with Levis and is trying to diminish his value, hoping for a chance to land him on their team for years to come. Perhaps we’ll never know.
