The 2020 NFL season will have a much different feel to it if the campaign is allowed to go on as scheduled. The league released a statement on Tuesday indicating that its teams have approved an expanded playoff field for the 2020 season.
It will include an extra playoff team in each conference with only one bye week for the top seed in both the AFC and NFC.
We’ll now have three wild cards games in each conference. It will look like this.
- Seventh seed vs second seed
- Six seed vs third seed
- Fifth seed vs fourth seed
The lowest remaining seed after Wild Card Weekend will take on the No. 1 overall seed in the conference. It’s a way to add more revenue with the NFL Postseason being among the most popular events in the sports world.
This was approved with the collective bargaining agreement both the NFL and NFLPA voted to pass earlier in the offseason.
Per the NFL press release, CBS will broadcast one additional wild card game on Jan. 10 at 4:40 p.m. ET. The other additional game will be aired on NBC and its streaming service at 8:15 p.m. ET on the same day.
