New York Yankees insider implores team to trade for this 3-time All-Star to fix 3B problem instead of Nolan Arenado

The New York Yankees have been linked to Nolan Arenado trade rumors for weeks. However, a prominent MLB insider in the city believes there is a different multi-time All-Star that makes far more sense for the club despite the big risks.

We are just a little over a month away from the start of the 2025 MLB and there is a lot of excitement about the Yankees. The pinstripes made a trip to the World Series in October and there is hope they can finish the story this year. And while they lost Juan Soto to rivals the New York Mets this offseason they made a slew of moves that probably made them a better team.

However, for as good as they are the team has one major issue. And that is at third base. Jazz Chisholm finished the 2024 season at the hot corner but is moving back to his traditional spot at second base this year. Replacing him at third will be 14-year veteran LeMahieu. The 36-year-old played in just 67 games last season and his injury woes in recent years is why the Yankees have been linked to Nolan Arenado trade rumors this offseason.

However, earlier this week, New York Post MLB insider Joel Sherman suggested New York should not go after Arenado. And instead target a more riskier option in three-time All-Star Carlos Correa.

  • Carlos Correa stat (2024): 86 G, .310 AVG, .388 OBP, .517 SLG, .905 OPS, 14 HR, 54 RBI, 55 R

“I think third base is an issue for the Yankees. I think it is something they will have to solve from outside of their organization,” he began by saying. “But, if I ran the Yankees I wouldn’t try and solve it with Arenado. Me personally, I would not have stopped calling the Minnesota Twins. When you talk about high-IQ baseball players who I know could play in October and I know could play in New York, I have zero percent concern about that player, about Correa. But there are still probably Yankees fans who hate his guts. Whatever.

“They hated Johnny Damon’s guts until he was running to third base, right? Correa, to me, is a leader. A high-IQ player. I still think he has a lot left. It seems like he’s learned to manage [his injuries]. He’s still only like 30,” he added. “And that’s so risky also because there’s still four years left on that deal. That’s the risk I would take because I like that player so much. I would take that risk, especially if they were willing to counter it.

  • Carlos Correa contract: Six years, $200 million

“Like, they took LeMahieu’s contract back. Or they took [Marcus] Stroman’s contract back, or they took both. Because they are getting out of $120 million. And I’ll give you two prospects.

Correa’s history with the controversial Houston Astros teams in the previous decade and the medical issues that scrapped a big contract with the Giants and Mets two years ago and legitimate concerns. However, he does have more upside long-term than Arenado and his championship pedigree is undeniable.
