New York Yankees linked to trade for NL MVP

All 30 MLB teams are working feverishly ahead of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, trying to swing last-minute deals to help them accomplish their goals. For the New York Yankees, those aspirations include reaching the postseason and, with some strong play, hopefully, the World Series.

But as we know, neither spot is guaranteed. The Yankees sit nine games out of first place in the American League East. But the Bronx Bombers are just 2.5 games back from the third and final Wild Card spot available.

Needless to say, becoming sellers is likely out of the picture. Instead, look for the Yankees to become buyers at the deadline, even if that means settling for players who aren’t All-Stars.

Yet there are other big names who could become available. One of those includes Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger who’s come much closer to reaching his MVP form in his first season in the Windy City.

According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees have often been linked to a Bellinger trade, bringing the 2019 NL MVP to the Big Apple, but even the Cubbies aren’t sure if they want to become sellers just yet. Sitting five games out of an NL Wild Card spot, the Cubs could go either way.

Yet, Heyman outlines a couple other potential outfield trade targets for the Yanks. These include Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk and St. Louis Cardinals outfielders Dylan Carlson and Tyler O’Neill. Not exactly star talents, but still players who could regularly contribute in New York.

With just days to go before the deadline, it’s possible we see more movement very soon as the clock continues to wind down.
