As the season closes in on the 2024 NBA trade deadline it seems the New York Knicks have made one of their most valuable trade chips, Immanuel Quickley, untouchable in recent trade discussions.

The Knicks are having a rock-solid season in 2023-24. They are in the thick of the hunt for a top-four spot in the Eastern Conference and are currently ranked at 11 in our latest NBA power rankings. However, a potential season-ending injury to Mitchell Robinson could have a major effect on their chances of avoiding Play-In games in the spring.

Even with Robinson being the anchor of one of the top defenses in the league, New York seemed to be one big piece away from being a serious title contender in 2024. That is why there has been continued speculation that they could finally swing a blockbuster deal before the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline.

However, it seems that if the do make a big move they are trying to do so without adding one of their most valuable young assets.

On Friday, Yahoo Sports NBA insider Jake Fischer gave a very interesting update on whether bench ace Immanuel Quickley could be a part of packages to land another star player this season.

“The gap in negotiations for Immanuel Quickley’s rookie extension this fall at first led rival teams to consider the combo guard a possible trade candidate come February, especially after New York gauged his value with rival teams during this time last year. Quickley’s representation was seeking around $25 million in average annual value, according to league sources. And yet Quickley’s name has been virtually absent from the early rumblings around the NBA.”

It is surprising that Quickley has not been in trade talks despite a serious chance of losing him in the summer. After a career year in 2022-23, the 24-year-old has had another strong season as their sixth man and it seems the organization is set on bringing him back next season.

  • Immanuel Quickley stats (2023-24): 14.7 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 2.6 APG, 38% 3PT

Quickley will be a restricted free agent in the offseason, which means the New York Knicks could match any offer he receives from rival teams.
