After failing to make a blockbuster trade for Matthew Stafford last week, rumors continue to intensify the New York Giants are “likely” to land a specific veteran quarterback available in NFL free agency.
There is a whole bunch of pressure on Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. After a surprise 9-7-1 result in their first season running the team, the G-Men have been awful under their watch since. And things hit a new low this past season when they finished with a 3-14 record. With their jobs on the line this year, they need to have a bounceback season.

That is why they must address their biggest issue and find a veteran QB that can bring an immediate upgrade to the position next season. They made a strong push for two-time Pro Bowler Matthew Stafford last week. Unfortunately, the one-time Super Bowl champion chose to stick with the Los Angeles Rams. There have also been NFL rumors about potentially bringing in four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers after two failed seasons with the Jets.
However, in recent days there have been growing rumblings the Giants could instead bring in a different well-aged future Hall-of-Famer.

New York Giants likely to sign Russell Wilson in NFL free agency?

“The Giants took their big swing on Matt Stafford. That failed. Now multiple sources expect them to concentrate their efforts on getting the No. 1 pick from Tennessee, and pairing the QB they select with a veteran,” SNY NFL insider Connor Hughes reported this weekend.
“That could be Aaron Rodgers. But I’m told the former Packers/Jets QB is more of a ‘discussion’ at this point than immediate Stafford fallback. Russell Wilson, Sam Darnold are two others the Giants are discussing, per sources,” he added. “A couple people I talked to believed Wilson to be the most likely outcome.”

This report follows ESPN’s Aaron Schatz predicting the Seattle Seahawks will likely be the G-Men’s starting QB next year. And ESPN’s Dan Graziano claiming recently the New York Giants are a very real option for him this offseason as well. The franchise also showed interest in the 36-year-old when he hit free agency last year as well.
He played well for much of 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but tailed off late in the season. He would also come at a more affordable rate than Rodgers or Darnold in free agency.
