New York Giants rumors reveal 2 QBs team choosing between in NFL free agency

The New York Giants have been tied to several quarterbacks in NFL rumors this offseason, from a pursuit of Matthew Stafford to trading up for the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft or signing a veteran in free agency. Now, two front-runners seem to be emerging in the Giants’ quarterback search.

Many around the league have believed for weeks that New York will aggressively pursue a trade with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 overall pick. It would put the Giants in a position to draft Cam Ward, who is widely viewed as the best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.

However, the team is still expected to add a veteran signal-caller in NFL free agency. Giants coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are both keenly aware they are on the hot seat in 2025. Ward won’t put the team in a position to win a lot of games next season, prompting the need for a veteran starter. That is what has fueled the club’s aggressive approach this offseason, with two leading options emerging.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the Giants are “likely” to end up with either Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson as their free-agent signing at quarterback. Whichever veteran is signed would enter training camp as the favorite to be the starting quarterback.

  • Russell Wilson stats (ESPN): 95.6 QB rating, 16-5 TD-INT ratio 2,482 passing yards, 7.4 yards per attempt, 63.7% completion rate, 155 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns in 11 games

Wilson and Rodgers both reportedly have some interest in signing with the Giants. With the Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly focused on Sam Darnold, Justin Fields and Rodgers, Wilson will likely need to find a new team. New York seems to be his top option, but he might have to wait to see where Rodgers lands.

  • Aaron Rodgers stats (ESPN): 3,897 passing yards, 28-11 TD-INT, 63% completion rate, 6.7 ypa, 90.5 QB rating, 40 sacks taken

As for Rodgers, he has a few potential suitors with the Giants, Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans among the clubs linked to him. The future Hall of Famer is only expected to sign a one-year contract, which would further point towards the Giants potentially taking a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft.
