It’s just Day 2 of the NFL’s free agency tampering period, but several dominoes have already fallen, including in the quarterback world. That puts the New York Giants on even shakier ground since Tommy DeVito is the only QB under contract in New York.

Not to mention, head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are entering their fourth year in control of the Giants’ franchise. They’ve gone 18-31-1 in that span, and coming off a three-win season surely places both on the hot seat entering 2025, meaning the Giants need as many wins as possible.

This is why the Giants must find an above-average starting QB this offseason, and there aren’t many options left. Yet, they are reportedly still in on arguably the best QB available in NFL free agency.

New York Giants trying to sweet-talk Aaron Rodgers

The New York Giants have the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could be used to target a quarterback. Of course, they could also attempt a trade into the No. 1 spot. But unless or until they can put themselves in a position to guarantee a top QB prospect will fall into their laps, the Giants need to have a capable starter.

That leads us back to the Aaron Rodgers conversation because the four-time NFL MVP wants to reportedly play two more seasons as Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio explains. Like the Giants, Rodgers is running out of options if he wants to assure himself a starting job for 2025 too.

Teams who don’t have a defined starter include the Giants, Tennessee Titans (who have the No. 1 pick and could draft Cam Ward), Cleveland Browns, and Minnesota Vikings (who likely prefer to hand the keys to J.J. McCarthy.

Basically, Rodgers is getting down to the nitty gritty, and he has nearly no choice but to listen to the Giants’ free agency pitch.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Giants have had “great conversations” with Rodgers this offseason.

“The Giants have had great conversations with Aaron Rodgers. Part of it is that, we think that you and Malik Nabers are really going to vibe. This is a guy that has incredible football IQ. We know you ask a lot of your wide receivers and this is a guy that can handle it. Those conversations will continue.”

With a strong sense of urgency to win and win now, the 41-year-old Rodgers could like what he’s hearing from the Giants’ front office. But is there another team, like the Steelers, on Rodgers’ radar? It shouldn’t be long before we get an answer to one of the biggest remaining questions of free agency.
