New York Giants Release Peyton Hillis

The New York Giants have reportedly released veteran running back Peyton Hillis after playing one-plus season for the team.

Hillis was signed to the Giants halfway through 2013 after running back David Wilson suffered a season-ending neck injury, which eventually ended his career. Originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2008, Hillis played there for two seasons before landing in Cleveland for two years. Hillis is most famously known for gracing the Madden cover after rushing for 1,177 yards for the Browns in 2010.

Those days are long gone. After a brief tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs and his 16-game call of duty with the Giants, Hillis’ career may in fact be coming to an end. He racked up 362 yards and two scores in his time in New York.

Since the Giants are in capable hands with their starting running back Rashad Jennings and promising second-year back Andre Williams, the release of Hillis really comes as no surprise. It saves the Giants $945,000 against the cap in 2015.
