Another NFL Mock Draft points to the New York Giants landing the player they need and want most in Round 1 of April’s event.
This year’s NFL Draft will be make-or-break for Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. After a pair of miserable seasons — with 2024 being a new low point — the team’s decision-makers must make some good choices in April and prove this current staff has short and long-term upside.
After a 3-14 finish in 2024, New York obviously has a lot of areas on the roster they need to improve. It creates some tough decisions for the front office and coaching staff in Round 1 of the draft. Do they address their gaping hole at the sport’s most important position, quarterback, or select the best player available with the third overall selection?
The top QB in this year’s class is Miami Hurricanes star Cam Ward. However, just a few weeks ago it seemed unlikely that he would still be on the board by the time New York makes their selection at three. However, recent rumors and mock drafts around the sport have suggested both the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns could pass on taking a QB in Round 1 despite a need for one.
Well, add another (major) NFL Mock Draft to those who believe the Giants could get the top QB in this year’s class. And without trading up.
Could the New York Giants land Cam Ward in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft?

In an all-new mock from ESPN NFL insider Field Yates, he expects the Titans to take Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, and then the Browns will pick Penn State sack master Abdul Carter. Leaving the Giants with the unexpected chance of getting the talented signal caller from Miami at three.
“Ward dazzled during his lone season at Miami, throwing for the most touchdown passes (39) and second-most passing yards (4,313) in the FBS,” Yates wrote. “Though he must clean up his footwork and decision-making, Ward has a high ceiling. He brings a powerful arm, can be an innovator on the field, and has a steely demeanor in big moments.
- Cam Ward stats (2024): 4,313 passing yards, 204 rushing yards, 44 total touchdowns, 172.2 passer rating
“The Giants, who moved on from Daniel Jones during the 2024 season, have to find stability at QB after finishing 28th in QBR (44.9) and managing only two more TD passes (15) than interceptions (13).”
The Giants had been linked to Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders for quite some time. But if they have the chance to take Ward at three, Deion Sanders’ son will have to take his talents to another team in the NFL.
