The New York Giants seem to be considering using their first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on a player who has the potential to be the next Saquon Barkley.
This will be a big next few months for Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. Three years ago, the pair seemed like brilliant additions to the organization after reaching the postseason and winning a playoff game in the 2022 season. However, there has been a seismic shift in their perceptions since.

After a pair of losing seasons, including a 3-14 finish last season both men’s jobs are on the line in 2025. They must make the most of their opportunities to improve the roster this offseason. And they have to hit big on their picks in April’s NFL Draft.
For weeks, the assumption has been that the organization will either target a quarterback or get the best player available with their pick at three in Round 1 of the NFL Draft. However, a new report suggests they could be taking a hard look at getting a player with similar talent to former star Saquon Barkley.
New York Giants to meet with Ashton Jeanty at NFL Combine

“The best running back in the Class of 2025 is Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, and what do you know: the Giants are going to get to know him here this week. Jeanty will have a formal interview with the Giants,” Art Stapleton of Northjersy.com reported this week.
Jeanty dominated Division-I college football last season. The Boise State running back was a Heisman Trophy finalist as he posted over 2,600 rushing yards, and 29 touchdowns on 7.0 yards per carry this past season. However, he also can be a dual threat in the passing game. In 2023 he had 43 receptions for 543 yards and five touchdowns for the Broncos.
- Ashton Jeanty stat (2024): 2,601 rushing yards, 7.0 yards per carry, 29 touchdowns
His skillset lends itself to easy comparisons to former New York Giants first-round pick Saquon Barkley. The MVP candidate had a monster year for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles this season after leaving New York in free agency last offseason.
Jeanty is projected to go in Round 1 of April’s event. However, the G-Men likely would trade back to get more draft assets to take him later in the opening round of the NFL Draft.
