It’s the offseason, which means the New Orleans Saints are in salary cap trouble for yet another year. As of now, the Saints are an estimated $15 million over the 2024 spending limit, which ranks fifth-worst in the NFL.
We’ve seen the restructures, pushing future cap hits into the future, and now the Saints could be considering trading one of their most popular players.
New Orleans Saints have Marshon Lattimore on the trade block
Cornerback Marshon Lattimore is a franchise legend for the New Orleans Saints. The four-time Pro Bowl player has largely been excellent since becoming the 11th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Yet, according to Pro Football Focus, Lattimore’s play has slipped the past two seasons and ranked 50th among 127 cornerbacks in 2023. While he’s still just 27 years old, Lattimore is set to have a cap hit of $14.1 million in 2024, and there’s a sense he could be traded.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, “several teams believe” Lattimore is “available via trade.” While he holds a large cap hit, Lattimore’s base salary for 2024 is a reasonable $1.2 million.
Teams seeking a playmaker could fall in love with the idea of buying low on Lattimore, and since the Saints need cap relief, a deal could come together.
