Less than a week after being transported to the hospital following a win against Sam Houston State, New Mexico Lobos head coach Bob Davie announced he will not travel with the team for their Sept. 14 matchup against Notre Dame.
The matchup against Notre Dame would have been a nice return for Davie. He served as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator from 1994-’96 then as the program’s head coach from 1997-’01.
New Mexico State announced Davies was transported to the hospital on Saturday with a serious medical condition. While he is still in the recovery process, the prognosis from doctors sounds positive.
Davies announced that without any further setbacks, he will be able to make a full recovery and not be limited in the future. However, he wanted to think about what is in the best interest of his team and his health by not making the trip.
The 64-year-old coach visited with his players on Thursday, a positive sign that he is taking steps forward in his recovery from a very concerning medical scare.
