Everyone knows what the Chicago Bears will do with the No. 1 pick. But where the New England Patriots go with the third pick is still up for great debate.
Odds are, the Patriots will either select their top-ranked quarterback, star receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., or trade down to acquire more draft capital. Any of the three outcomes wouldn’t be a major shock.
Yet, the Patriots selecting a QB like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, would definitely be a big surprise. Yet, according to Sportskeeda’s NFL insider Tony Pauline, there’s “a lot of buzz” about the Patriots selecting McCarthy at No. 3. His latest mock draft detailed why.
“I’m not big on McCarthy being a top-10 selection, but the UM signal caller to New England was the buzz on the pro-day circuit. De facto general manager Eliot Wolf is pushing hard for McCarthy, and he believes he has as much upside as any quarterback in this draft.”
Tony Pauline on New England Patriots’ J.J. McCarthy interest
McCarthy’s arrow has been pointed straight up ever since leading the Michigan Wolverines to a College Football National Championship win over the Washington Huskies, but most of the hype has him landing in the top 13 picks.
However, as we’ve seen time and time again, all it takes is one team to ‘reach’ for a player to make sure they get their guy before anyone else can. It’s possible that’s what the Patriots are planning to do with McCarthy, even if one of Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye are still available.
