The Brooklyn Nets are expected to go big game hunting this summer. That includes the likes of Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis and Kevin Durant.
Though, Brooklyn isn’t limiting the number of All-Star it pursues. According to this report from Brian Lewis of the NY Post, the Nets are looking to team All-Star D’Angelo Russell up with Kyrie Irving in the back court.
Most figured that Brooklyn’s interest in Irving could signal an end to Russell’s tenure in the Big Apple.
Not so fast.
It would be a rather interesting pairing. Both are seen as ball-dominant and shoot-first point guards. Russell averaged a career high 18.7 shots during an All-Star campaign with the Nets last season. Meanwhile, Irving averaged 18.5 shots for Boston.
We’ve seen issues with two ball-dominant guards in the same back court. Most recently, there’s been drama between Chris Paul and James Harden in Houston.
Whether that plays a role in Brooklyn’s decision-making process remains to be seen. But it would be a fun look.
