Irrational rumors were circulating over the past week that new Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant might end up playing at some point during the 2019-20 season.
Given that he’s mere months removed from suffering a torn Achilles in the NBA Finals, this seemed to be a bit foolish.
We’ve now received some confirmation from Nets general manager Sean Marks, who indicates that the team expects him to miss the entire season.
Brooklyn signed Durant to a four-year, $164.3 million deal back in July. It makes no real sense for the team to rush the two-time NBA champion back.
Remember, Durant suffered the Achilles injury after forcing his way back from a calf injury as a member of the Golden State Warriors last season.
Returning too early from an injury of this ilk could have wide-ranging ramifications. The Nets are smart to play it safe with their new franchise cornerstone.
