It seems like the Brooklyn Nets brass is all in agreement. Recently signed two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant is highly unlikely to play this season.

Brookyln head coach Kenny Atkinson doubled down on that on the eve of the Nets’ season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This follows remarks from Nets general manager Sean Marks during the summer noting that Durant is unlikely to suit up for the team this season.

Durant suffered a torn Achilles as a member of the Golden State Warriors during the 2019 NBA Finals. It was always going to be a long shot for him to suit up in his initial season with Brooklyn.

Signed to a four-year, $164.3 million deal back in July, it makes no real sense for the Nets to risk Durant’s future.

Instead, the team will now roll with Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert as their primary cogs as the Nets look to improve off last season’s 42-win output.
