There are few things worse for a major program than being upset on their home turf. Unfortunately for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, their loss on Saturday was even more devastating because they literally paid for it.
A lot.
According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, Nebraska paid Troy University $1.15 million to face the Trojans. A game that the Cornhuskers thought would provide a spark for the Scott Frost era instead turned into a costly disaster.

Nebraska isn’t the only team to suffer the consequences of paying to put Troy on its schedule. The Trojans received $985,000 last season from LSU, who they knocked off in a 24-21 upset victory.

It might be wise for major programs to stop scheduling head coach Neal Brown’s Trojans to come into town. LSU and Nebraska have now paid for it in every way possible, so perhaps other schools will learn from their costly losses.
