The drama between freshman center James Wiseman and the NCAA took another turn on Wednesday.

According to Shams Charania of the Athletic, the governing body has suspended Wiseman 12 games and won’t clear him to return to action until Jan. 12.

According to Charania, the NCAA has also practically fined Wiseman $11,500.

This all stems from the NCAA deeming that Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway was a booster when he helped Wiseman’s family relocate to Tennessee during his high school days.

It’s been a long and drawn-out process with the Tigers seemingly pushing back against the NCAA at every turn.

At this point, it’s not yet known whether Wiseman will suit up for Memphis again. He’s considered the likely No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The 7-foot-1 center is averaging 19.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in just three games this season.
