Zion Williamson may not have much more time with the New Orleans Pelicans. After five injury-riddled seasons in New Orleans, Williamson is seeing more of the same during the 2025-’26 NBA campaign. The former Duke Blue Devil has only played 15 of the 31 games this season.
In fact, Williamson has been successful in a bench role ever since coming back from his latest injury. The Pelicans hope Williamson can return to his “normal rotation” soon; however, it makes more sense for the injury-riddled NBA forward to have a minutes restriction as a bench player.
It seems inevitable that New Orleans cuts ties with Williamson sooner rather than later, and the NBA trade deadline will be its first opportunity. Below, we dive into five destinations for Williamson as NBA trade rumors swirl.
Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers would be a very intriguing destination for Williamson. Los Angeles would likely have to include Rui Hachimura and draft picks to acquire the 25-year-old forward, but it would be worth the price if he stays healthy. Williamson is averaging 21.8 points this season and would be a good fit next to Luka Doncic.
Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics could take a gamble on Williamson without giving up forwards Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum. If Boston includes guard Anfernee Simons in a trade package, it could give up a few other promising players and draft picks. It would be intriguing to see Williamson next to Brown and Tatum, as the latter continues his rehab after an Achilles injury.
Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have finally arrived, but Williamson could help push the organization to the next level. Detroit could include forwards Tobias Harris and Caris LeVert with a few draft picks, making itself the clear favorite in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons finally have a shot at the NBA playoffs, and the New Orleans star could be the key moving forward.
Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are known to acquire disgruntled or flawed stars and turn them into key pieces of a championship-level team. Miami could include Andrew Wiggins with another young player and draft picks to bring the deal across the finish line. Williamson would be thrown into “Heat Culture,” which might be the best development in his NBA career.
New York Knicks

The New York Knicks have been linked to Williamson ever since he was drafted in 2019. New York could include forward OG Anunoby, along with draft picks, in a potential trade. Williamson has the potential to transform an NBA organization, but he must be healthy. The big question will be whether the Knicks or another team will take the chance on him.
