A new report suggests the New York Knicks could soon lose one of their top assistants to the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Knicks players, coaches, and staff are still deep in celebration mode after doing what many fans thought would never happen on Saturday. For the first time since 1973, New York has an NBA Champion after the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Before players head to their offseason homes and celebrate some more with friends and family, the roster and coaches reveled in their success one more time on Thursday with a championship parade in downtown Manhattan that reportedly included over a million fans. And for one of the team’s assistants, it may be the last time he gets to hang with head coach Mike Brown as part of his staff.
Portland Trail Blazers to interview NY Knicks assistant Chris Jent
According to Marc Stein, the Trail Blazers are expected to interview assistant coach Chris Jent soon for their head coach opening. Reports in the spring suggested Jent was a name on the rise in head coaching search circles, and being the top offensive coach for a team that won a championship with an impressive offensive display is surely going to draw a lot more interest.
While his departure would certainly hurt the Knicks, Brown recently spoke out, expressing surprise that Jent hasn’t been more in demand in coaching searches over the last month.
“Chris Jent, my associate head coach, I’m surprised he hasn’t gotten an interview,” he said. “He’s our offensive coordinator. He’s been around for a long time. Somebody needs to give him an interview because he’ll help your team win at the highest level.”
