A surprising rumor claims Trae Young would welcome a trade to the Brooklyn Nets. However, the rebuilding team has no interest in acquiring the four-time All-Star.
With a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade seeming less likely — unless he forces a move — a lot of the recent NBA trade chatter this month is now focused on the Atlanta Hawks star. According to league insider Jake Fischer, Young is the most likely star to be moved before next month’s deadline, especially compared to fellow star guards Ja Morant and LaMelo Ball.
And it is understandable why. While Young has been the face of the franchise for the last eight years, he has also been the face of some disappointing seasons recently. Furthermore, Jalen Johnson’s break through 2025 has shown the organization has a replacement to be their new top star if they move Young. Plus, Young could potentially opt out of his contract for next season and test free agency.

There is more than enough reason to make a move, and the organization has reportedly been seeking out a new home for the 27-year-old. Young and his representation are working with the Hawks on a potential trade, and the star guard has a list of teams he is willing to go to. One of them is allegedly the BK Nets.
“I’m told that Young’s camp has suggested Minnesota and Brooklyn, from their side, as two attractive potential destinations,” Fischer reports.
BK Nets Have No Interest in Trae Young Trade

With Michael Porter Jr. having a big season, pairing him with Young could form a dynamic combo for the rest of the season. However, according to Fischer, his sources tell him that the Nets are not pursuing a trade for Trae Young.
“There hasn’t been any indication yet, however, that Brooklyn wants to make a splashy in-season addition. Nor are there any indications that Young is in the Nets’ sights,” Fischer claimed.
The BK Nets have played better over the last few weeks, and their youngsters are showing signs of growth. However, they still own the fifth-worst record in the league at 11-22. Yet, they are just 3.5 games out of the final spot for the Play-In Tournament. Adding Young could be huge and help them make a surprising run at a playoff spot.
Nevertheless, reports in December suggested the organization has no plans to make a trade for a veteran All-Star this season and they prefer to stay the course with their youth-driven rebuild.
