The NBA offseason has finally arrived, and the Sacramento Kings have been linked in numerous basketball rumors involving trades and potential free agent signings. While players like DeMar DeRozan could be on the move, the Kings will have to make some roster additions too.

Now, as the league prepares for the start of NBA free agency on June 30, reports are already leaking about some Kings free agent targets.

Specifically, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Kings are “considering” signing pending free agent Russell Westbrook to help solve their point guard needs.

“Fellow free agents Tyus Jones and Russell Westbrook are also known to be options that the Kings are considering. Free agency formally begins at 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday. Beyond the point guard vacancy, though, league sources say the Kings are open for business when it comes to discussing the various possibilities with their roster.”

Athletic on Russell Westbrook/Sacramento Kings

Tyus Jones has developed a notorious reputation for taking care of the ball by limiting turnovers and being a pass-first guard who can shoot above 40% from distance. Meanwhile, Westbrook has a knack for getting to the rack and scoring quick buckets while offering some dynamic playmaking abilities too.

Ultimately, neither Jones nor Westbrook will break the bank in Sacramento, and they both offer starting upside. Chances are, they’re only two of a large number of guards the Kings are considering this offseason. For all we know, they’re fallback options as the Kings chase some bigger fish first.
