The NBA All-Star Game has lacked sizzle for a very long time. FS1 personality Nick Wright has an idea to improve interest that is sure to get some laughs and eye rolls from basketball fans.
There was a time when the NBA All-Star game and the weekend’s worth of events surrounding it were a major sports happening. There were the celebrity games, the skills competition, the legendary Three-
Point Competition, and the even more iconic Slam Dunk Competition.
It all culminated on Sunday night in a showcase of the best basketball players on the planet. And with so many of them having championship egos, the All-Star Game was competitive and a joy to watch. Yet, in the 21st century, the NBA All-Star Game has lost all of its interest as the stars of today try to avoid injuries and play next to no defense.
Unsurprisingly, it has turned fans off, and ratings for the game have steadily declined over the last two decades. Two of the last three have delivered the worst television ratings in the history of the event. With interest at an all-time low, experts and analysts around the sport often speculate on what could help save the once-popular game.
Nick Wright goes in a strange direction for NBA All-Star Game fix
Well, on Wednesday, popular FS1 TV analyst Nick Wright offered a wild idea to draw interest back to the NBA All-Star Game.
“You know what, PC headlines be damned,” Wright began by saying during a recent appearance on Bill Simmons’ The Ringer podcast. “White guys vs. Black guys. Luka [Doncic], [Nikola Jokic], [Cooper] Flagg, [Austin] Reaves, [Kon] Knueppel, against [Victor] Wembanyama and whoever.
“I’m telling you right now, guys would play f***ing hard. There would be a real edge to the game. And we are getting close to a place where we would be like, ‘Oh, that’d be a good game.'”
Wright’s bizarre idea is a few years away and needs Flagg and Knueppel to continue to develop and become All-Stars. But outside of that wild notion, the analyst admitted he doesn’t know “what the hell” else you can do to draw interest back to the NBA All-Star Game.
