A new rumor makes it seem even more likely that the New York Knicks will lose valuable big man Mitchell Robinson in free agency this summer.

Knicks fans have known for years, and NBA experts have long understood that Robinson’s value to the team is far greater than his stats reveal. However, basketball fans around the country have gained a new appreciation for his game during the 2026 playoffs.

While he has certainly been injury-prone over his eight-year career and doesn’t offer a lot on offense, when he is healthy and on the floor, he is a top-notch rim protector. A great lob threat. And the game’s best offensive rebounder.

Yet, he has been seen as a role player who would fall in a certain price range when he hits the open market this summer. Or maybe not, because it seems Roinson could be a top target of several notable teams in the offseason.

“Teams regularly relayed to me when I’ve asked around about Robinson’s status have pointed to the Bulls, Hornets, Lakers, and Raptors. Those are all clubs known to be looking for center upgrades,” NBA insider Jake Fischer reports.

Fischer notes the Bulls will have as much as $60 million in cap space, so they could make an offer the Knicks can’t match as a team close to passing the second tax apron. Deandre Ayton must first opt out of the final year of his deal before the Lakers become a threat. But he is expected to do that, and reports have long suggested Luka Doncic has wanted more lob threat.

The NBA insider also added that the Atlanta Hawks could also get into the chase for Robinson as they look to “fortify their depth at the position in support of Onyeka Okongwu.” Also, the Golden State Warriors are “another team that could emerge depending on what happens with Kristaps Porziņģis’ contract talk.”
