Tom Thibodeau managed to lead the New York Knicks to their first Conference Finals appearance since the 2000 season, but that wasn’t enough for him to return for a sixth season as the team’s head coach. The Knicks feel like they’ve built a championship contender, and they clearly felt like coach Thibs wasn’t getting enough out of the star-studded roster that’s been built in New York.

Yet, the Knicks have spent the past several weeks vetting new candidates while interviewing many different potential replacements for Thibodeau. On Wednesday, they seemingly finally came to a decision.

According to ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania, the Knicks are “expected to land on Mike Brown as the franchise’s next head coach.”

Brown is a two-time NBA Coach of the Year who spent last season as the Sacramento Kings’ head coach before being let go after a 13-18 start. He has a 454-304 regular season record in the NBA, but has won four NBA Finals trophies as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs.

Now 55 years old, Brown is in a position to lead the Knicks for several seasons, but expectations will be extremely high for a team that clearly has championship aspirations right away.
