The Sacramento Kings failed to make the NBA Playoffs for the second consecutive year, resulting in a change in the front office. Now that a new general manager is in place, NBA teams are reportedly eyeing DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk as trade targets this summer.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that the Miami Heat will now be shifting their focus to DeRozan as a potential trade acquisition after missing out on Kevin Durant. It has been previously reported that Monk is a target for the Toronto Raptors.

Kings reporter Jason Anderson said that while the team hasn’t discussed trades with either Toronto or Miami, that could change following the Durant deal. Sacramento is open to making moves this summer, and many around the NBA believe that DeRozan would be a trade target for teams that missed out on Durant.

Earlier reporting this offseason said that the Kings’ front office would like to acquire a first-round pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft. Miami holds the 20th overall pick, which could be of interest to Sacramento. The Kings are also in the market for a true point guard.

Sacramento attempted to use Monk as its point guard this season when De’Aaron Fox was injured and after he was traded. Before that, he was a perennial Sixth Man of the Year candidate in the previous two seasons, averaging 14.4 points per game in 24.1 minutes per night in 149 contests from 2022-24.

While the Kings aren’t entertaining a rebuild, general manager Scott Perry does seem receptive to moving off some of the pieces that the former regime brought in. With the Western Conference expected to be even stronger next season, Sacramento doesn’t currently project to be a playoff contender.
