A new report from a notable NBA insider points to the Golden State Warriors pursuing one of two blockbuster trades, including for fast-rising young star Trey Murphy III.

After landing Jimmy Butler in a big trade in February, he quickly gelled with his new team, and in the spring, Golden State looked like a real dark-horse title contender. However, an injury to Steph Curry during the playoffs derailed everything.

But it left the team with high expectations for 2025-26. However, after a quick start, the Warriors have been an average team and own a 13-12 record. That’s why it’s no surprise that they have been linked to various NBA trade rumors in recent weeks, since they have a very small title window with their aging stars.

Late on Tuesday, a new and very interesting rumor emerged. According to veteran NBA insider Jake Fischer, the New Orelans Pelicans are surprisingly not turning away trade interest in Trey Murphy III. Months ago, it looked like he would be a long-term building block. However, they own the worst record in the NBA and badly need draft capital for 2026 after moving up in June’s event to get Derik Queen.

Fischer believes the Warriors may pursue him again, as they did in the summer, and dangle Jonathan Kuminga’s contract, as well as future first-round picks, in a deal. The 25-year-old forward is averaging 21 points for a second straight season, as well as six rebounds. He is signed through 2028-29.

Could the Golden State Warriors target Myles Turner trade?

However, Murphy isn’t the only name Fischer believes could be on Golden State’s trade wish list in the months ahead. The team has been linked to potential front-court help. Especially since Al Horford has not made the impact in the middle that the Warriors brass hoped for.

That’s why the NBA insider believes Myles Turner may also be a target for the Warriors, using Kuminga’s expiring contract.

“An interesting potential salary match for Golden State in Kuminga’s salary range would be Bucks center Myles Turner, who’s earning $25.1 million this season,” he wrote. “Don’t forget that the Warriors have shown some real interest in Turner in the past, according to league sources, dating to well-chronicled trade discussions between Golden State and Indiana that included various concepts involving Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, and Buddy Hield.”

Turner was the biggest addition of the offseason for the Milwaukee Bucks. However, he has made no difference for what is currently a losing team in 2025-26. With rumors swirling that Giannis Antetokounmpo could be traded before the February deadline, Turner might be part of a potential rebuild sell-off by the team later this season.
